I will always remember the book “A Fly Went By” by Mike McClintock. It was my father’s favorite book as a kid and he used to read it to me when I was a child. The book showed me just how much a book could be loved and how much bonding the experience of reading a book together could be. As a young child, my parents would read me a story every night before I went to bed and almost every night, I chose to have my dad read my “A Fly Went By.” I loved how silly the story was and how it always seemed to be a tongue twister to read no matter how many times you read it. “A Fly Went By” is the first memory that I have of bonding with my dad. I loved the fact that my grandfather read the book to my dad when he was young and then my dad read the same exact book to me. We now have a very close relationship and sometimes we even still talk about when I was young and he read the book to me. “A Fly Went By” was the first book that I can remember that really made a difference in my life and I know that I will pass the book down when I have my own kids in the future.
